ABS Warning Light

An ABS warning light comes indicator light on your dash comes up when there is a problem with the ABS system of your car.

ABS system prevents locking up wheels during a hard braking, thus preventing skids. Therefore it's one of the most important safety feature in any car. Car wheels have speed sensors that send messages to the car's computer about the spinning of the wheels. During a hard breaking, the computer activates the ABS system to apply breaks intermittently to prevent the wheels locking up.

Reasons for the ABS Warning Light.

Malfunctioning ABS Module - This is the commonest reason for a failing ABS. You need to take the car to a mechanic to address the problem. Sometimes you might have to replace the ABS module.

Low Levels in the Fluid Reservoir - ABS works on a hydraulic system which activates the brakes. If the brake fluids are low the system cannot work as intended. Usually the leaks in the system can result in low levels of brake fluids. Open you hood and check for fluids. If low you need to top up it with fluids that manufacture recommends. If the leaks persist you might need to take the car to a mechanic to address the problem.

Broken Wheel Speed Sensors - Each wheel have a speed sensor to identify the speeds the wheels are rotating. If any of the wheel sensors are broken, the ABS / Traction control system would be inactivated until you fix the errors. You need to take the car to a mechanic to attend the problem.

Your System is Turned Off - Some cars have the option to turn off the ABS system. If you have accidently shut the system off, this light will come up to warn you about that. Therefore, press the button again and activate the system to have the ABS system working.
