When this light comes up on your dashboard, it could be either the cruise control system is working or there is a problem detected in the cruise control system.

Cruise control helps to keep the vehicle going on a selected speed until you press the brake pedal. Cruise control systems have become smarter through out the decades, that currently smart enough to maintain the speed with the ongoing traffic.

When the cruise control system is activated the light is usually orange colored, but when a certain speed is selected it will turn green.

But if the computer detects a problem in the system, the light will be orange, and keep lighted until the problem is addressed. Computer will also keep an error code saved regarding the problem. You can access these codes via OBD 2 port.

Common reasons for a faulty cruise control light.

1. Blown fuse
2. Faulty brake switch
3. Malfunctioning speed sensor

Is it safe to drive with the cruise control light on?

If everything is working fine as intended, there is no harm driving with the cruise control light on. But the cruise control won't work untill you address the probelm. Therefore you need to take the car to a mechanic and get an inspection done.
